Why the Sacred Heart Prayer
Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
Our monthly Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus began after the tragic deaths of
Treyton Kilar in 2010 and Connor Bourke in 2011. Treyton was killed by a drunk driver when he
was almost 7 years old. Connor battled brain cancer for over two years before his death at the age
of 11.
Both were cherished students in our school who have left a legacy of faith and love of family.
Treyton and Connor often spoke openly of their love for Jesus, their families, classmates, and
friends. Our SJB community wanted to remember both boys for the way in which they shared
Christ’s love with others. The monthly Devotion and Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus began in
the fall of 2011 as our special way of honoring the memory of Treyton and Connor, who were good
friends. This special devotion that we pray after every First Friday mass reminds us how much
Jesus loves us and how we should all share that love with others.
“Jesus, meek and humble of heart, make our hearts like unto thine.”

Thank you for the continued love and support shown for the Treyton Kilar Field of Dreams project. Treyton Kilar was killed by a drunk driver on September 2, 2010. His memory continues to live on through the love and compassion we share with each other in Jesus' name. Thank you all for supporting this project, our family, and Treyton's memory!
